Long Hair Don't Care

My last post got me thinking about hair which then got me thinking about how expensive getting hair done is now-days. As a black girl living in London I know the pain of handing over money to a woman who pulled and played with my hair.  I remember getting a weave put in a small back room of a barber shop; I had to wait 4 hours for her finish prodding at this bald scalp on this ageing woman and then I had to go one pack of hair even though I know I have a big head and one pack won’t look alright, but I though hey ho she’s the hair dresser. 1 and half hours of scalp torture later I had this messed head of hair and she expected me pay £30 for the whole experience. As you can image I was livid. I went home and a few weeks later I got sick of looking at my head and bought a extra pack and put it in and cut it myself. Got me thinking why don’t I do my hair myself? And what a load of cash I’d be saving.
my hair did it all by myself

I know it sounds daunting but trust me it’s a) not that hard b) anyone can do. Now, now I’m not asking you to cut your own hair but if you’re brave enough to do it then by all means go for it. But ladies ask yourself, how many times have you had a weave in and it start coming un-done so you had to put sewn it back up to make it last? I think that every time I had a weave done at a salon I’ve had to do some repair work. Doing such simple things as trimming your ends, doing braid, weaves and dying your hair can be done at home and you save yourself a pretty penny as well. For example I got my hair oops I mean I did my hair last week. I’ve got some long thick braids that only cost me the packs of X-pression where as in a hair salon it would have cost me a 70. I mean my fingers hurt afterwards but there’s a sense of satisfaction in having done my own hair and it didn’t take as long as I thought.

weave in this all my work :)
How do I learn this money saving skill, I hear you thinking. Well I’ll tell you how I learnt 1st was by having braids falling out so I had to put them back in and they’d fall out again so I’d put them back in until they stay. 2nd was by how our generation are learning to do everything.. Youtube! After watching a videos don't be afraid to do it yourself!!

If you think you can’t do hair or if you just don’t want to, then befriend someone who does hair rather good and get them to do your hair at mate rates, in other words free. Or you could go to a training salon where they charge a fraction of the price because it would be trainees doing your hair.

Solange Knowles - Fashion Inspiration

I loooove Solange Knowles and the way she dressed, theres just something that very effectlessly chic about her. I also love the fact that shes not afraid to be different and dearing. She'll wear tribal prints, block colours and other wonder clothes which is I consider rare to see black oops Afr-Caribbean celebraties do. I have been looking back at her fashion evulation and it matches mine in a way. When she relaxed her hair her style was very what I'd call 'contemporary' or safe. And if i'm honest because of that she was almost her sisters shadow refered to as 'Beyonce sister' all the time when she had her own talents.
However after the BC (the Big Chop to those lacking in natural hair knowledge) she turned into a fashion butterfly and flew out of her big sisters shadow and came into her own spot light which i love! I think its the effect of natural hair, it reminds you of where you come from, the struggle of those before you and dares you to be different to take risks, thats because having natural hair now days is very daring inspite of natural hair being what it says natural that grows out of black womens heads and goes onto being drowned in chemicals until its un-natural and straight.. But thats a rant for a different entry I think.
For me Solange is an Inspiration her and my mother are the reasons why I decided to go back to stop punishing my hair and go natural, mainly because she just rocked it and that got me to ask myself why can't I? Looking at her and the way she carries herself with a sense of enthic #swag, just inspires me to remember my roots and that fashion is more about expressing who you are than following what magzines say. Lets be honest with each other her if you followed everything that magzines say is 'in style' then what does that say about you? Solange Knowles I solute you for being a fearless woman, and look to you as my Fashion Inspiration

What’s the blog about?
It’s about trying to make it through life when you’re broke, because everyone is going through some hard times right now because of cuts and other things so having a few things to kind of help you through it is amazing. It will have tips on best places to buy designer clothes at a good price, vintage shop reviews and best places to go out on a budget and still have fun.
Why start the blog?
I started it because I don’t think that life should stop just because you’re broke. The way that people talk about being broke like it’s a illness that stops you from enjoying life.. Don’t get me wrong being broke is not the most fun in the world but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy your life. Originally I was going to do a blog about Vintage and Thrift shops but I realized that I don’t just shop at vintage shops so why not do a blog about everything and anything.
Favorite place to shop
I love Vintage shops, mainly because you can find bargains within them, like in one near my house I saw a pair of Gucci high heels for £25... BARGIN!!
One thing you can’t leave home without
I’m stuck between Vaseline and music. Vaseline because having dry lips is not okay and music because I love living in my own bubble.
One random fact about yourself
I eat jelly raw.
